“Indeed.”
Richard slipped the phone back into his pocket.
“And I made one this morning.”
Greg froze.
My stomach tightened.
Richard gestured toward the street.
One of the men standing near the SUVs opened a briefcase.
He removed a folder.
Greg looked at it and shook his head.
“No.”
Richard said nothing.“No, you can’t do this.”
“I already did.”
“What is happening?” I asked.
Richard turned toward me.
“The restaurant where you worked is owned by Northstar Dining Group.”
I nodded.
Everyone in town knew that.
Northstar owned several casual restaurants in the region.
Richard continued.
“Until yesterday, I owned thirty-eight percent of Northstar.”
Greg closed his eyes.
“Until yesterday?”
Richard gave a small nod.
“This morning, I acquired another twenty-four percent.”
Greg stared at him.
“You bought Peterson’s shares?”
“And Wallace’s.”
“That deal wasn’t supposed to close until next quarter.”
“It closed thirty minutes ago.”
