My husband came home and said, “I’m in love with another woman, but I still love you, so I’ll just live in both houses” — I thought he was joking until he began packing, so I taught him a lesson he never expected from me.

“I sent him somewhere he wouldn’t hear his father explain why two women should share him.”

His face hardened.

“If you keep Kieran from me, I’ll apply for full custody.”

“You walked out.”

“For three nights, not forever.”

Elena stared at him.

“You told me you were staying permanently.”

“Stay out of this!”

My phone rang on the table.

Graham glanced at the number and put it on speaker.

“Mrs.

Ward?” a woman asked.

“This is Helen Marsh from Northbridge Lending.

We’re calling about the missed payment on the secured loan.”

“I never took out that loan.”

A pause followed.

“Mrs.

Ward, we have

your signature, identification, and a verification code sent to your personal phone.”

I looked at Callum.

His anger vanished, replaced by a small, satisfied smile.
