Betrayal Comes From the Closest to You

Clara turned, confused by her sister’s extreme reaction. “Elena? What’s wrong?” she asked softly.
Elena stood paralyzed, staring at Mark with a look of profound hurt and betrayal. “Mark… what are you doing?” her voice trembled, barely louder than a whisper. “You told me you were leaving her today. You swore it was over between you two.”
The room plunged into an icy, suffocating silence. Clara felt the temperature drop instantly. She looked up at her husband, waiting for him to laugh or correct her sister, but Mark’s expression had completely changed. His jaw was set, his arm remained locked around Clara’s waist, and his eyes met Elena’s with cold defiance. He didn’t pull away from Clara; instead, he held her tighter, using her as a shield.
“I changed my mind, Elena,” Mark said, his voice completely devoid of emotion. “The baby changes everything. What we had was a mistake.”
The horror washed over Clara in brutal waves. The late-night texts Mark claimed were from work, the sudden errands Elena always volunteered to run, the unspoken understanding that had felt like family warmth—it had all been a lie. Her husband had been having an affair with her own sister in their very house. Elena hadn’t dropped by to bring breakfast out of love for Clara; she had come expecting Mark to walk out on his pregnant wife.
