Healthy boundaries can involve many areas of life.
She may protect her evenings for rest, decline invitations when she is exhausted, establish financial limits with relatives, or insist that disagreements be handled respectfully.
If she begins dating again, she may communicate her expectations earlier and pay closer attention to whether a potential partner respects them.
However, boundaries are not the same as emotional walls.
A boundary communicates what a person needs and what behavior they will accept. An emotional wall may be an attempt to avoid all vulnerability because being hurt feels too dangerous.
After a painful breakup, protecting oneself is understandable. But avoiding every possibility of closeness can also prevent meaningful relationships from developing.
The goal is not to become unreachable.
It is to learn that
closeness and self-respect can exist together.
A healthy relationship should allow both people to have individual interests, friendships, personal space, and the freedom to express disagreement without fear.
