RIGHT AFTER OUR DIVORCE, MY MOTHER IN LAW BLOCKED THE DOOR. “DON’T EVER STEP FOOT IN MY HOUSE AGAIN, I SMILED. ACTUALLY… I ALREADY SOLD THIS HOUSE… AND YOUR SON WAS JUST FIRED AS CEO..

Daniel approached me but stopped when Lena’s sedan pulled up behind the SUV.

My attorney emerged carrying a folder.

“Perfect timing,” I said.

Daniel pointed at me. “Tell her to withdraw everything.”

Lena looked mildly amused. “That isn’t how board investigations work.”

Vivian stepped beside her son. “We can fix this privately. Whatever she wants, give it to her.”

There it was.

For years, they’d believed everything could be bought because that was how their world worked.

I shook my head. “I already have what I wanted.”

“Money?” Daniel spat.

“Freedom.”

Lena opened her folder.

Inside were the finalized divorce judgment, property settlement, and financing documents establishing my company’s ownership rights.

Daniel snatched the papers.

His eyes scanned the page.

Then froze.

“What does it say?” Vivian demanded.

He stayed silent.

Claire reached toward the documents.

I spoke instead.

“The board voted to terminate Daniel for cause.”
