My thirteen-year-old son sold his prized electric guitar to buy a specialized wheelchair for a girl in his class… but early the next morning, two armed police officers showed up at our front door. And what they revealed left me completely paralyzed.

Tears filled her eyes.

“You really did that for me?”

Julian smiled.

“I just wanted you to have a chair that works properly.”

Jillian covered her mouth.

For a moment, she couldn’t speak.

Then she embraced Julian.

“That is one of the kindest things anyone has ever done for our family.”

We spent the next hour helping Maya become familiar with her new wheelchair.

Her parents checked the fit and adjustments, and Maya practiced moving around the living room.

She rolled toward the kitchen.

Turned around.

Then returned to us with a huge smile.

“Julian, it’s so much easier!”

My son grinned.

“That’s what I hoped.”

Watching the two children laugh together made me realize how much this moment meant to both of them.

When we finally left, Jillian thanked us again.

Maya waved from the doorway.

“See you at school!”

Julian waved back.

For the rest of the evening, he seemed happier than I’d seen him in weeks.
