“No, Julian. Thank you.”
He glanced toward Maya.
“You gave my daughter something our family had been working hard to provide. More importantly, you showed her that people notice when someone needs a little help.”
Julian looked embarrassed by the attention.
“I didn’t do it for a reward.”
“I know,” Nathan said. “That’s why we wanted to give you one.”
Part 5: What my son taught me
As the officers gathered for a photograph, I stood beside Jillian and watched our children.
Maya was showing Julian how easily her new wheelchair moved across the living room.
Julian had his guitar case open, admiring the instrument and asking questions about its sound.
They looked like two ordinary teenagers enjoying an exciting morning.
And yet, something extraordinary had brought us there.
Jillian gently touched my arm.
“You’ve raised a wonderful boy, Sarah.”
I smiled through my tears.
“He’s taught me quite a bit this week.”
