“Aaron,” I said.
“Hi, Emily.”
“Did Linda ever ask you whether Michael could use our condo to fund his investment?”
Aaron hesitated.
“She asked about home equity.”
“What did you tell her?”
“That you’d both have to agree.”
“Did you tell her the condo was mine?”
“I assumed she knew.”
“She knew.”
Michael glanced at me. Aaron continued carefully.
“She seemed to think you were going to put Michael on the title.”
“Why?”
“She said you’d talked about it.”
“I never did.”
“Oh.”
“Did you ever help her access Michael’s old email account?”
“No.”
“Did you know she had access?”
“No.”
Michael leaned toward the phone.
“What about my old laptop?”
Aaron was quiet.
Then he said, “Your mom asked me to look at it.”
“When?”
“Maybe six weeks ago.”
“Why?”
“She said it was running slowly.”
“Did you fix it?”
“I cleaned it up. Updated the operating system. Reset a few passwords.”
