“Hey.”
“Are you at work?”
“No. Why?”
Michael faced me.
“Did you ever log into my old consulting email?”
“Your what?”
“The account from Bennett Market Solutions.”
“Oh.”
Aaron sounded more awake now.
“Years ago, maybe. Why?”
“Recently.”
“No.”
Michael frowned.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.”
“Did my mother ask you anything about it?”
“Your mother calls me all the time.”
I faced Michael. He looked equally surprised.
“What?”
Aaron gave a short laugh.
“Not all the time. A few times.”
“When?”
“Over the last couple months.”
“About what?”
“Mostly the Evanston deal.”
Michael slowly sat down.
“Why would she call you about that?”
“She wanted to understand how employee investment worked.”
I saw the realization spreading across Michael’s face. He had told his mother about the opportunity. Linda, convinced her son was about to lose his marriage and possibly his home, had started researching ways to secure his future.
