I married my high school sweetheart at 73 — after his funeral, his lawyer knocked on my door and said: “You walked right into his TRAP.

***I opened that chart and saw the name Alun.***

You read the chart outside. You always read it outside. That is the entire point of a chart.

So I stood in a corridor on Dunmow ward on the eleventh of February, 2025, and read the name Alun Reith, with a date of birth four months before mine.

And then I went in.

I had perhaps thirty seconds in that corridor. I could have put the folder back on the rack and found Hetty and said I knew him.

That is a four-second conversation and it is the normal thing and I have watched other people do it.

And instead I stood there and arranged my face and pushed a door open and looked surprised.

I have told forty people that I walked into a room and recognised him.

I knew before I went in, and I went in anyway, and the surprise on my face was a thing I did.
