“Is that true?”
Ryan’s face lost its color.
“Sir, Claire and I were arguing. I exaggerated because I was frustrated.”
“Were you involved with passengers during your assignments?”
Ryan stared at the table.
Finally, he nodded.
“I made some mistakes. It won’t happen again.”
I sat motionless.
There it was.
An apology.
Not to me, the woman who had endured his betrayal while raising our newborn daughters alone.
But to the man who controlled his career.
Mr. Holloway pushed back his chair.
“You know our professional conduct rules. I can’t overlook this.”
“Please,” Ryan whispered. “I have two babies.”
“The shore transfer is suspended. You will not begin Monday. This will be referred to Human Resources immediately.”
He turned toward me.
“Claire, could you provide that recording for the investigation?”
I nodded.
Mr. Holloway left without finishing his meal.
Ryan followed him into the hallway, pleading for another chance.
