For 4 years, I picked up my sister’s kids from school for free. One day I was 37 minutes late, and she screamed at me in front of them: “Not with my children!” Then she shoved me out of her house. I stopped picking them up. 11 days later, the school called me. Then my sister called 6 times. I turned my phone face down.

My throat tightened.

Then I finished.

**“I’m their aunt. I love them. But I am not an unpaid childcare arrangement that someone else gets to control.”**

I handed the letter to the clerk.

Nicole looked as though she couldn’t understand what had happened.

She’d spent four years assuming I’d always be available.

She’d believed affection gave her the right to demand my time.

And now that certainty had disappeared.

After reviewing the evidence, the referee announced the decisions.

Dan would receive overnight parenting time every Wednesday.

The claimed $950 monthly childcare expense would no longer be included in the support calculation.

The amount Dan had overpaid, calculated at $24,750, would be credited through adjustments to future payments.

Nicole was also ordered to cover Dan’s attorney fees.

And the questionable sworn statement would be referred for further judicial review regarding possible perjury.

My sister sat motionless.

Then the referee looked at me.
