“Wait. I have a better idea.”
She brought me into a small monitoring room.
“Executive presentations are recorded for internal review,” she explained. “The system has a live feed with audio.”
After logging in, she opened the conference room camera.
Elias appeared on the screen, confidently arranging his notes.
Nina pulled up two chairs.
“Front-row seats,” she announced.
I sat beside her, watching my husband smile at Margaret.
“Now, are you finally going to tell me what you’ve been plotting?”
I smiled back.
“Remember how Elias hires someone to make his quarterly slides?”
“Yeah. He brags about it constantly.”
“Well, last week, the designer emailed him the finished presentation. Elias downloaded it, copied it onto his flash drive, and never opened it.”
“How do you know?”
“Because he told me. Apparently, checking someone else’s work is beneath a future department director.”
“So, while he was at the gym, I borrowed his flash drive and made a few adjustments.”
