Nina turned slowly toward the monitor.
“Adjustments?”
“I replaced several slides. Kept the same fonts, colors, everything. The financial charts are still there.”
She stared at me.
“You’re kidding.”
“Not even a little.”
“And then you hid the flash drive?”
“In my bathrobe pocket. I knew he’d eventually search the bedroom. I wanted him to think he’d won.”
Nina covered her mouth, laughing.
“You evil woman! What’s on those slides?”
Before I could explain, Margaret entered the conference room alongside three other executives.
Elias immediately straightened, displaying his most charming smile.
Nina looked from me to the screen.
“Does he seriously have no idea?”
“He told me last night there was absolutely no reason to review the presentation.”
She shook her head.
On the monitor, Elias connected his laptop to the projector.
“Well,” she whispered, settling into her chair, “this should be interesting.”
“Good morning, everyone,” Elias began, flashing his usual confident smile. “Thank you for making time for this presentation.”
