Clara’s heart pounded as her fingers traced the faded Latin text. “Julian, look at this page,” she whispered, her voice barely audible over the crackling candle flame. “The letters… they are shifting.”
Julian leaned closer, his eyes widening in disbelief. Before their very eyes, the ink on the parchment began to move, rearranging itself into a hidden map of the very room they were sitting in. Suddenly, a low rumble echoed deep beneath the floorboards. The shadows in the library seemed to stretch and come alive, creeping toward their table.
“We shouldn’t have opened it,” Julian warned, his hand trembling as he reached to close the book.
