There was hatred in his eyes now.
“You’ll regret this.”
Emily stepped forward.
I put one hand in front of her.
Richard’s daughter pulled her son closer.
Richard did not move.
“Is that a threat?”
Greg saw the phones.
The witnesses.
The trap.
His expression changed.
“No.”
“Good.”
Richard nodded toward one of the men from the SUV.
“Security will collect your keys.”
Greg looked ready to explode.Instead, he turned around.
He walked back toward his car without another word.
Halfway there, he stopped.
He looked over his shoulder at me.
Something in his expression made my stomach tighten.
Not anger.
Knowledge.
Like he knew something I didn’t.
Then he drove away.
For several seconds, nobody moved.
The entire morning felt unreal.
The donations.
The crowd.
The firing.
The audit.
I looked at Richard.
“I don’t know what to say.”
“Say yes.”
I frowned.
“To what?”
