My sister kissed my husband in front of thirty people at her own anniversary party and called it a joke. Her husband had a wrapped present in his hands and an envelope she had never opened.

He walked across that garden and gave it to her.

And she stood there holding it in front of thirty-one people with her mouth slightly open, and Tobin said: “Go on.”

Inside it there was a printed photograph and a memory card in a plastic case.

The photograph is a still from a camera at the side of the annexe at Harrow Rise, timed 21:47 on the eleventh of April.

It is not of Ellis.

It is of my sister and Tobin’s brother.

Gethin.

Who was, at that exact moment, standing eleven feet from her at the barbecue with a pair of tongs in his hand.

The eleven seconds afterwards.

Nobody screamed and nothing got thrown, which everybody always finds disappointing.

Tobin said one more sentence. He said it quite pleasantly, and he said it to his brother and not to his wife.

He said: “There’s another one of the third of May, Geth. And one of the nineteenth.”
