My Sister Evicted Me From the House She Never Owned

By the time Madison decided she deserved the house held in my trust, she’d already exhausted the assets available to her.

I looked at my sister.

“You knew all of this.”

She lifted her chin.

“I knew Grandma always preferred you.”

“No. Grandma protected what she left me because you’d already spent what she left you.”

Madison’s eyes hardened.

“You’ve always believed you were better than everyone else. You sit there quietly, judging us.”

I looked directly at her.

“I stayed quiet because every time I tried to defend myself, you made me regret speaking.”

Her face reddened.

Then she picked up her wineglass and threw it toward the fireplace.

It shattered against the stone.

The officer immediately stepped between us.

For the first time that evening, Madison seemed to understand she couldn’t argue her way out of the evidence.

She’d tried blaming me.
