Michael stepped forward.
“Officer, this is a marital dispute. My wife is being dramatic.”
The officer faced him. Then at the new lock.
“When was this lock changed?”
Michael hesitated.
“Today.”
“Who authorized it?”
“I did.”
“And are you the property owner?”
Michael’s jaw tightened.
“I’m her husband. I live here.”
“That wasn’t my question.”
I handed the officer my phone. She studied the deed. Then back at Michael. Linda started talking.

“Ma’am,” the officer interrupted, “I need you to stop for a moment.”
Linda went quiet. The second officer glanced past Michael into the condo. His expression changed.
