My Husband Tried to Take Control of My Condo. Then I Found the Secret Emails

“I should have listened better,” I said.

Michael’s eyes lifted.

“But you should have spoken more clearly.”

“And none of that explains the lock.”

He looked down.

“No.”

“So explain it.”

“My mother told me you were going to sell the condo.”

“What?”

“She said you mentioned it.”

“When?”

“I never told Linda I was selling.”

“She said you were thinking about it.”

“I wasn’t.”

Michael frowned.

“She said you told her at brunch.”

Linda and I had gone to brunch six weeks earlier after Michael cancelled because of work. A special assessment being discussed by the condo board.

I had said something like, “Sometimes I wonder whether keeping this place long term makes sense.”

“I said the fees were getting expensive,” I told him. “I never said I was selling.”

Michael stared at me.

“She told me you were looking at houses.”

“I look at houses online all the time.”
