There.
Proof.
Dad did not move.
Marisa stared between us.
“What trust?”
No one answered.
I continued.
“You knew that if I failed to complete graduate school before thirty, approximately forty million dollars would fall under your control.”
Marisa whispered:
“Forty million?”
Mom found her voice.
“It was for the family foundation.”
“A foundation you would control.”
“For charitable purposes.”
“Which charities?”
She opened her mouth.
Nothing came out.
Dad slammed his glass down.
“Your grandmother manipulated everyone with money.”
“No.
She protected it.”
“From her own son.”
“Apparently she had reason.”
His face reddened.
“You have no idea what I sacrificed for that woman.”
“I know you tried to borrow against assets that weren’t yours.”
Mom turned sharply.
“Robert.”
He glared at her.
“Don’t.”
I reached into my handbag and placed the email copy on the table.
Sylvie won’t need much.
She’s always been self-sufficient.
