I stood there for a moment.
Then sat beside him.
“Is there anything else?”
Dad didn’t answer immediately.
My stomach tightened.
“Dad?”
He looked toward the courtroom doors.
“There was another call.”
I turned toward him.
“Another call from Brian?”
He nodded.
“What did he want?”
Dad lowered his voice.
“He asked me to lie.”
I stared at him.
“About what?”
“The mirror.”
For a moment, I couldn’t speak.
During the divorce, Brian had claimed Grandma Lena’s mirror was a wedding gift intended for both of us.
My father knew that wasn’t true.
He’d personally given it to me before I met Brian.
But apparently, Brian had contacted him with an offer.
If Dad agreed to support Brian’s story, Brian would stop contesting several other marital assets.
Furniture.
Savings.
A vehicle.
Items we’d spent months arguing over.
In exchange, Dad only had to claim that Grandma Lena had intended the mirror to belong to both of us.
