Too warm.
I never believed Irvin had cheated.
But I was furious that he had given Vanessa so much room before finally drawing a line.
“You knew she was flirting,” I said. “Why did you keep helping her?”
His answer came quietly.
“Because I had absolutely no interest in her. I thought that made it obvious.”
“It was obvious to you. That wasn’t enough.”
He went silent.
Two days later, the customer who had ordered the wedding cake canceled.
She had heard there was “trouble” with my bakery and didn’t want to risk her order.
That was when the situation stopped being merely embarrassing.
Vanessa was costing me money.
That night, I placed my phone on the kitchen table.
“We post everything.”
Irvin frowned.
“What?”
“All the messages. Full screenshots. Dates. Context. Everything.”
He shook his head.
“And turn our marriage into neighborhood entertainment? No. We fix the garage, stabilize the bakery, and stop giving her more of our life.”
