I’m 22 and I fell in love with my own patient

She was doing arithmetic. About what it would cost me and what it would cost her children and what she had left.

And she decided yes.

And I have spent fourteen months letting this town believe that an old woman was swept along by something.

What I have been saying instead.

That they came with paperwork twice in fourteen months and visited their dying mother no other time.

Which is true. Both of those visits were about documents and I will say that in front of anybody.

And the second one is a direct consequence of me, and I have never once included that, in any version, to anybody, including to Mr Haldane.

And the fourteen months it has been in a drawer, which I have described as a decision I keep not making.

It is not one decision. It is about nine.

Mr Haldane has mentioned it twice. The sixth of January and the second of June, both times in that office, both times in about one sentence.
