I received a 25-year prison sentence for a crime I didn’t commit. My husband stood beside his pregnant mistress while my mother-in-law pretended to cry. I calmly revealed one secret. The officers froze, and the prosecutor shouted, “Stop the transfer!”

He leaned forward.

“Your father was preparing to transfer his controlling shares in Vance Holdings into a charitable foundation. The company is worth approximately five billion dollars.”

I nodded slowly.

“Yes. We discussed it together.”

“Investigators believe you were afraid of losing your inheritance.”

I stared at him.

“You think I would hurt the man who raised me because of money?”

Callahan closed the folder.

“The evidence is difficult to ignore.”

I lowered my eyes.

Then a horrifying realization began forming in my mind.

Silas had access to my computer.

He knew my secondary phone number.

He knew my father’s medication schedule.

And his mother had been visiting Arthur on the afternoon he became ill.

Suddenly, pieces of my life began fitting together in the worst possible way.

“Detective,” I said quietly, “I need you to investigate my husband.”

Callahan raised an eyebrow.

“Why?”

“Because there’s something about Silas you’ve never been told.”
