My husband was standing behind the observation-room glass, pounding his fists against it.
I remained seated, speaking calmly into the microphone.
“Detective, the property is an abandoned farm outside Lexington, Kentucky. It belonged to the Thorne family. There’s an old storage building near the eastern tree line. That’s where you need to look.”
Silas’s expression changed.
“Shut up, Eleanor!”
I continued.
“His mother, Beatrice, kept Clara’s personal belongings in the farmhouse cellar. Silas believes everything connected to Clara’s disappearance was destroyed, but his mother admitted otherwise.”
A representative from the U.S. Attorney’s Office stepped forward.
“Suspend the prison transfer. We need to verify this information immediately.”
Silas stopped pounding the glass.
For the first time since my father’s funeral, he looked genuinely frightened.
But three months earlier, I had been the frightened one.
And back then, nobody believed a word I said.
