Raquel listened carefully.
“And if we cannot have children together?”
“Then we would have to talk honestly about what family means to us. I won’t pretend that question is unimportant. But I won’t treat you as if your worth depends on giving me a child.”
Raquel looked away, crying quietly.
For years, she had feared that love would always come with a hidden price.
Now the man sitting before her was telling her that he would accept the uncertainty of their future without demanding that she guarantee his happiness.
She wiped her cheeks.
“I still don’t know if I can face your family again.”
“You don’t have to do that today.”
“And I don’t know whether I can live with the comments people will make.”
“I can’t make the world kind, Raquel. But I can make sure you never have to face my family’s cruelty alone again.”
