“What money? The doctor wants us to pay more before they can continue the treatment. My sisters think I’ll find a solution. My mother looks at me as if I can save her. I don’t even know how I’m going to pay for tomorrow.”
Esteban sat beside him.
“You’re doing everything you can.”
“Everything isn’t enough.”
For a moment, neither man spoke.
Then Raúl’s phone rang.
A woman needed an urgent plumbing repair at a luxury villa. The caller sounded impatient and offered to pay extra if he could arrive immediately.
Raúl stood up at once.
“I have to go.”
“Then go,” Esteban said. “And don’t come back without charging what your work is worth.”
Raúl managed a small smile, picked up his tools, and left.
He had no idea that this ordinary job would change the direction of his life.
