Nadia crossed her arms.
“We were trying to protect you.”
“From what? A woman who helped Mama receive treatment? A woman who gave you the chance to continue your education? Or from the possibility that I might choose a life you wouldn’t choose for yourselves?”
Neither sister answered.
Raúl continued.
“I understand that you worry about the future. You can ask questions. You can disagree. But you cannot insult the person I love and expect me to pretend nothing happened.”
Fatou looked down.
“Are you really going to choose her over us?”
Raúl shook his head.
“I’m not asking you to compete with her. You’re my sisters, and I love you. But loving you does not mean allowing you to decide whom I can marry.”
Nadia’s expression softened slightly, though she still looked unconvinced.
“What about children?”
“That is something Raquel and I would have to discuss honestly. If we decide to build a family, we will consider what is possible and what is right for us. But you don’t get to use that question to humiliate her.”
