At the age of 24, I married a man who was fifty years older than me. Everyone around me thought that I had married him solely for the money. I myself was convinced that after his death, all his property would go to me.

The notary opened the file with the documents and silently reviewed them for a few seconds.

Then he looked at me.

“Are you sure you want to know what’s in the will?”

This question even surprised me.

“Of course.

The notary sighed heavily.

Then he placed a few documents in front of me.

Part 2

“So there is one thing you need to know. Your husband made a decision about his property long before you got married.

I felt anxious.

“What do you mean?”

The notary looked at me and said:

“You will not inherit anything.”

Mylegs almost bent under me.

I grabbed the edge of the table.

“But why?” I’m his wife!

The notary looked at the lawyer in silence.

And he said:

“Your husband left an instruction that you obviously didn’t know about…”

I looked at the lawyer, not understanding what was happening.

“What disposition?” I asked.

The lawyer opened the file and took out a copy of the document.

“Your husband founded a special foundation a few years ago.

I frowned.

“A foundation?”

He nodded.

“The Foundation helps nursing homes for the elderly, pays for renovations, medicines, food and the purchase of necessary equipment.

I looked at the notary.

“What does this have to do with his property?”

The notary replied calmly:

“The thing is, your husband donated almost all of his property to the foundation long before you were married.

I couldn’t believe it.

“But the house?” Apartments? Accounts?

“Everything has beenat his disposal,” the lawyer replied.

I felt that everything inside me was turning over.

This meant that my husband decided in advance what would happen to his estate after his death.

And he did it long before he met me.

“Why didn’t he tell me about it?” I whispered.

The lawyer was silent for a moment.

Then he took out another piece of paper.

“He left a personal letter for you.

My hands began to tremble.

I started reading.

My husband wrote that he was aware of the huge age difference between us.

He understood that one day he would leave this world long before me.
