But beneath all those roles, the young girl who once had dreams of her own is still alive.
And it’s never too late to make her happy.
Today, that beach photograph hangs on the most prominent wall in my living room.
At first, my children were terrified when they saw it.
But now, whenever my grandchildren ask who that skinny man who looks like Grandpa is, I smile and answer:
“He’s someone who reminded me of your grandfather’s final wish.”
Then I point to the laughing woman in the photograph.
“And that’s your grandmother. On the day she finally decided to start living again.”
And every time I look at that picture, I silently say:
“Thank you, Thomas. You loved me even when I couldn’t find a way to love myself.”
What would you do if your children tried to stop you from taking your first vacation alone? Would you dare to do something like this after turning 60, or would you prefer to stay close to your family? ❤️
