Why did Tessa depend on Margaret’s assistance enough to react so desperately?
I needed answers.
At the hospital, I found Roy in the surgical lounge, guided him into an empty consultation room, and closed the door.
I explained everything: the appointment, his messages, and my conversation with his mother.
His expression changed from confusion to horror.
“She came to your office?” He sank into a chair. “Vanessa, I swear to you, I never touched her.”
“Then talk.”
He rubbed his jaw.
“She started texting me weeks ago. I told her I didn’t know her. Then she claimed the baby was mine. I told her to stop.”
“And you didn’t tell me.”
“Ness.”
“You let me sit across from that woman yesterday without knowing any of this?”
“I thought if I ignored her, she’d eventually stop.”
“And when has ignoring a problem ever made it disappear?”
He flinched because we both knew I was right.
